Here's a great article about using questions to gauge student learning. Socratic Seminar goes way beyond this, however, since as a facilitator, the teacher can spend considerable time listening carefully to the students. The students will be working together to dig deeper into the text than they would in ordinary classroom situations. This incredible depth is one feature that separates Socratic Seminar from typical discussions.
